Executive Council
In the 1996 election to avoid contest, after a long discussion the house unanimously elected a jumbo size executive council consisting of 40 members almost double of the normal size having an Associate vice president, 2 secretaries, 11 vice presidents by suspending the provision of the election constitution. This has been arranged due to the 5th national games 1999.
Its role
Manipur first participated in the national games at Hyderabad in 1979. The Manipur Olympic association is responsible for the preparation and participation of competitors in the national games. There is a separate association at the state level in each games/sports which assist the Manipur Olympic association and the preparation of sportsmen.
The selection of sportsmen is generally carried out on the basis of performance of state level. However, at that time, special selection trials are also held to choose the competitors for participation in the national games. After qualified in the national meets, the competitors are required to attend for non residential & residential training camps. The state level sports associations are assisted by NERC, SAI centre, Imphal which provide training equipments for the athletes.
